Vice Chair of Opportunity and Outreach

The UCSF Department of Surgery Opportunity and Outreach Committee is dedicated to fostering an environment that embraces the value of individual differences and creates an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and empowered.

Our mission is to promote opportunities for success, eliminate healthcare disparities, and cultivate a surgical workforce that reflects the communities we serve in San Francisco. Through intentional recruitment, comprehensive education and training, mentorship, and community engagement, we strive to advance surgical practice, research, and innovation in San Francisco and around the world.

We are committed to continuous assessment, accountability, and collaboration with all the members of the Department of Surgery and our patients. Our goal is to work towards a future where the supporting the economically disadvantaged is ingrained and is a part of every aspect of the UCSF Department of Surgery. We will continue make sure everyone in our department no matter who they are can be successful in their career development.

Differences Matter

Differences Matter is the School of Medicine’s initiative designed to make UCSF a place where people from different identities and backgrounds can work work together to advance opportunity and belonging in medicine for all.
