The UCSF Department of Surgery will hold the 33rd annual J. Engelbert Dunphy Resident Research Symposium virtually on Wednesday, October 28th, 2020. The 2020 Symposium, originally scheduled for April 8th, will be held via Zoom for the safety of all participants. The Department is honored to host Dr. Melina R. Kibbe, M.D., Professor and Chair of Surgery at UNC-CH as the 2020 Dunphy Professor. 

The J. Engelbert Dunphy Resident Research Symposium showcases the laboratory research of residents, fellows, and medical students in the Department of Surgery and honors the life and accomplishments of J. Engelbert Dunphy, M.D., a legendary surgeon and a former chair of the UCSF Department of Surgery.

Dr. Kibbe's research focuses on vascular biology and developing novel therapies for patients with vascular disease. Her research was recognized by President Obama with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2009. In 2017, Dr. Kibbe was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Kibbe is also the Editor in Chief of JAMA Surgery
